NEOTENY

What is neoteny? Neoteny, also known as juvenilization, is the retention of juvenile features in the adult animal. There are many animals that change its shape when becoming adults; for example, tadpoles becoming frogs and the caterpillars becoming chrysalis and then butterflies. However, some animals do not change its form when becoming adults. A well-known example of such animals is axolotls (Mexican walking fish). This phenomenon is called juvenile maturing. For human beings, the proportion of head-body balance in childhood and that of adults are distinctly different, and sexual characteristics also change in time. I think that our thoughts and preferences in mind will also naturally change as we grow up into adults. However, there are some adults that can only be called as mentally “neoteny”.
